Omaha poker is variant of poker which is gaining in popularity. No where near as popular as hold em but still has a strong following.
In Omaha Poker, you are dealt 4 cards. There are 5 community cards. It is similar to Texas Hold em in that you have to make your best hand with the available cards. There is a twist though. You have to use exactly 2 of your own cards and 3 of the community cards. Tough luck if your best hand relies on more than 2 of your cards or just a single card. You have to use exactly 2 of your cards.
This means the strategy is totally different. Getting dealt a pair in hold em is usually a good thing but getting 3 or 4 of one card is bad in Omaha. Same for suited cards. Having exactly 2 same suited cards is good but any more and its bad.
With being dealt 4 cards instead of 2, the winning hands are usually better in Omaha. Forget calling with your trips. In Omaha, you are quite likely to get beat if thats your best hand.
There is another variant of Omaha which is known as Omaha lo/hi. In this game, you have to make 2 hands. One is the low hand and the other the high hand. A low hand is the worst hand you can possible make in normal poker. Ignoring straights (which Omaha lo does), the worst hand is A,2,3,4,5. This adds further excitement to the game as your nut high hand might only win half the pot if someone has a better low hand.
